MBA specializing in Health Sector

If you are from a Medical / Healthcare background or hold such experience, you shall probably be interested in pursuing MBA and going on to specialize in Health Sector rather than getting a General MBA.

To my knowledge, all MBA programs offer a General MBA with options of specialization. While there are distinct advantages to having a specialization, the flipside may be that you may get slotted into a particular field and may not have much flexibility to switch fields post MBA.

The Business Schools in Canada that currently offer specialization in Health sector are:-
  • Schulich:------- HIMP: Health Industry Management Program
  • Rotman:------- MBA Major in Health Sector Management
  • DeGroote:----- Health Sector Management MBA
  • Ivey:---------- Health Sector MBA
  • Colorado Technical University online (based in Vancouver): Hospital & Healthcare facilities Administration / Management
  • U of Ottawa:---MHA (Masters in Health Administration)
Additionally, for those who have already completed their MBA, but have missed out on the opportunity to specialize in a particular field, Schulich offers a 6 month Post-MBA diploma program in multiple fields including Health Industry Management.
